I am a 44-year-old woman who grew up in a similar small town in Rhode Island. While I did not have an experience like Laura, I can empathize with what she is going through. I was so anxious to move away from that small town and went as far away as I could get -- Arizona. I returned to be with family when I was in my late 20s but still stayed far away from that small town.

I also am currently out of work due to severe depression which I am climbing slowly but steadily out of, so I can relate to how she feels. I was encouraged by her new found strength but realize that building back your self esteem takes a very long time.

My husband and I have a 30-foot sailboat. Perhaps Laura and her friends or family would like to experience sailing in Narragansett Bay this summer, or perhaps Laura would just like a fresh set of understanding ears. I'm not sure how I can help or if she needs or wants my help, but I want her to know that there are so many people outside of her little town that believe in her and support her and understand the politics of the small community. She is not alone.
