R.I. public school calendar 2004-2005

Editor's note: These are the scheduled start dates for Rhode Island public schools. They do not reflect any possible delays due to any school contract negotiations.

Start dates in some districts are also "staggered," which may affect the start of kindergarten and some other grades. Please check with your local school district administration for details. Districts with staggered start dates are marked with an *.

Holidays and vacations

Labor Day: Sept. 6

Primary Election Day: Sept. 14 (Johnston only)

Rosh Hashanah: Sept. 16, 17 -- no school Cranston, Providence; Sept. 16 only -- no school in East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown and Rhode Island School for the Deaf.

Columbus Day: Oct. 11

Election Day: Nov. 2

Veterans Day: Nov. 11

Thanksgiving recess: Nov. 25, 26; Nov. 24, 25 and 26 -- East Providence only

Christmas vacations: Dec. 22 and return Jan. 3 -- Pawtucket. Dec. 23 and return Jan. 3 -- Central Falls, Coventry, Cumberland, Exeter-West Greenwich, Foster, Foster-Glocester, Glocester, Jamestown, Lincoln, Little Compton, Middletown, Narragansett, Newport, North Kingstown, North Providence, Portsmouth, Smithfield, South Kingstown, Tiverton, Warwick and West Warwick

Dec. 24 and return Jan. 3 -- Barrington, Bristol-Warren, Burrillville, Chariho, Cranston, East Greenwich, East Providence, Johnston, Met School, Block Island, North Smithfield, Providence, Scituate, Westerly and Woonsocket. Dec. 24 and return Jan. 4 -- Davies Career & Technical School and Rhode Island School for the Deaf.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Jan. 17

Mid-winter vacation: Feb. 21, 22, 23, 24, 25

Good Friday: March 25 (School is in session on Block Island)
