Class: The college is offering a one-credit, five-week class that teaches the basics of Microsoft Project, a new project management software. MS Project helps to plan steps from inception to completion, share information, manage budgets, track progress and project results. Classes are enrolling for this fall, at the Warwick campus, from Sept. 9 to Oct. 7. It will also be offered online from Oct. 12 to Nov. 16. Named: Stephen Parker has been named university dean of graduate education at the university. Martha Rose has been named dean of the newly created School of Education at the university. Helena Rodrigues has been named university dean of libraries at the Providence campus.
Open house: The university will hold an open house for its continuing education and graduate school programs on Sunday, Aug. 15. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. The program, which takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., includes a presentation and tour of the university. For more information, call 598-2300.
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE
Service: Thomas O'Brien, a resident of Providence and security officer in the Office of Safety and Security, was honored recently under the Service Recognition Program for his 25 years of service to the College.
Awarded: Patricia M. Hartford, a resident of Bradford who is a student in the School of Continuing Education, was awarded the Dr. Edwin K. Gora Award by Eta Lambda, the college's chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national adult continuing education honor society. A vice president with the Washington Trust Co., in Westerly, Hartford is enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in business administration since returning to college after more than 20 years.
Anniversary: The Rev. James Aloysius Driscoll, class of 1949 and assistant professor of theology at the college, recently marked the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood with the celebration of the liturgy at the college.
RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE
Awarded: Clara Rivera has been selected by the Institute of International Education to receive a Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship to study in Spain during the fall semester. Rivera will participate in the Hispanic Studies program sponsored by Academic Programs International in Spain.

Appointed: John J. King of Franklin, Mass., was recently appointed to the newly created position of vice president of student affairs, effective Aug. 16.
Welcome: The university will welcome more than 1,000 incoming students at its annual Academic Convocation on Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. The event is held on the field behind the Campus Recreation Center and marks the arrival of the entering class of 2004.

Fashion: After more than a decade of recording and categorizing 20,000 patterns and scanning the front and back of each package into an electronic database, Joy Emery, professor emerita of the university's Theatre Department and former adjunct professor of textiles, fashion merchandising and design, and her cadre of volunteers have created a two-volume CD set containing patterns dating from 1868 to 1956. The set is available for purchase.
