3-year accord approved by district, union
07:05 AM EST on Tuesday, November 3, 2009
The Chariho Regional School District and its teachers’ union have ratified a three-year contract.
The new contract, set to expire in 2012, calls for a performance-based system and eliminates longevity pay for new hires. The changes take effect in the 2010-2011 school year.
The contract also extends the instructional day and freezes or reduces steps on the salary schedule except for top-step teachers whose salaries will increase 2 percent this year and 2.25 percent in years two and three of the contract.
All union members are to contribute 16 percent toward their health care by the end of the contract. The National Education Association of Chariho also agreed to further cutbacks on how much members who waive health coverage will receive.
