Concert: The combined choirs of Emanuel Lutheran Church and First Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Greenwich, will sing Handel’s “Messiah” on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. A free-will offering will be collected. A second concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 118 Division St., East Greenwich.

Council sinks proposal to shift police station site
EAST GREENWICH — After hearing from the police chief and listening to about two hours of public comment, the Town Council last night rejected a citizens group’s request that design work for a new police station on First Avenue be temporarily shelved to allow time to explore the group’s vision for the lower Main Street area.

Petti tops Hoyer in E. Greenwich; recount sought
In East Greenwich, Town Council member Kim Petti is the winner — for now — of a fifth slot on the council after a count of provisional ballots yesterday gave him a 2-vote edge over former council member Carl Hoyer.

Both landfill, recreation bonds OK’d
EAST GREENWICH — Local voters said yes to the two bond questions on Tuesday’s ballot, giving the town the financing authority to cap a former municipal landfill and develop additional playing fields near East Greenwich High School.

Isaacs leads, Schwager a surprise second in tight council race
EAST GREENWICH _ With nearly 500 absentee ballots yet to be counted, virtually all local races were too close for decisive victory claims, but Republican Town Cuncil President Michael Isaacs was far enough in the lead to appear to have little to worry about.
