College football: Salve 27, Bridgewater St. 20

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Salve Regina University got its first win of the season on Saturday, knocking off Bridgewater State College, 27-20, in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) game. Salve improved to 1-2 while BSC fell to 2-1.
Salve senior quarterback Jeff St. Onge completed 24 of 37 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way for the Seahawks.
St. Onge connected on scoring strikes of 52, 65 and 8 yards. His eight-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Michael Dargan with 3:57 remaining in the game snapped a 20-20 tie.
BSC junior Justin Fuller posted his third straight 100-yard rushing performance. Fuller carried 27 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Bridgewater State converted on just 4 of 15 third-down attempts, had a key pass dropped, and had one costly fumble. BSC’s only turnover of the game came on a fumbled punt with 5:49 left in the fourth quarter. Five plays later, St. Onge connected with Dargan for the winning score.
Ryan Hazinakis of Newport had an eight-yard touchdown run that helped the Seahawks to a 14-6 halftime lead.
