One is a junior closing in on 100 career points. Two are seniors and captains. Thirteen are women, one a captain as a junior. All are from Rhode Island.

Halfway through the college hockey season, 53 Rhode Islanders are skating in rinks throughout the Northeast. They are playing varsity hockey in the ECAC, Hockey East and NESCAC Division I and Division III. Many are having an impact.

John Rocchio (East Greenwich), a junior at Suffolk University in Boston, is seven points shy of 100 for his career. A 5-10, 175-pound forward, he has 4 goals and a team-leading 15 assists for 19 points this season. The Rams were 7-7-0, 5-0-0 in the Division III ECAC Northeast heading into their game against Assumption last night.

Rocchio played in 22 games as a freshman and finished with 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points. Last year he skated in 23 games, scored 13 goals and assisted on 30 for 43 points. He played junior hockey for the Bridgewater Bandits before taking his stick to Suffolk.

Nathan Perreault (Smithfield) is captain at Worcester State. Being a captain is a challenge as well as an honor at any school, but the challenge for Perreault is greater this season because the Lancers are struggling with a 1-12 record overall, 1-6 in ECAC Northeast.

Perreault is a 6-1, 185-pound forward who has eight assists this season. He has skated in 72 games during his career and has 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points. He also played for the Bridgewater Bandits.
