Catching up with . . . Retail landscape feels some tremors
WARWICK
-- The city's retailing landscape changed in Warwick this year when Ann & Hope greatly scaled back its Post Road store and Apex shuttered its doors on Route 5.
There was instant speculation about what might eventually become of both properties. Some suspect that Ann & Hope will someday be absorbed into the Warwick Station District and redeveloped for an airport-related use, or perhaps will be condemned by the state Airport Corporation, like so much of the Lincoln Park neighborhood that once surrounded Ann & Hope.
There were rumors about the state building a new Kent County Court House on the Apex parcel, until the decision was made to build next door to the existing courthouse, on Quaker Lane.
Hotel development remains a possibility for the Apex site, opposite Route 113 from the Crowne Plaza Hotel, but nothing official has been proposed at City Hall.
