Catching up with . . . Gorilla engagement
CRANSTON
-- They haven't exchanged vows yet, but wedding bells are still in the offing for the couple who got engaged in the summer in the shadow of a huge, inflatable gorilla mounted on the roof of a Park Avenue restaurant.
Norma Eldridge said "yes" to John Martinelli in August, after Martinelli had a 25-foot-tall gorilla balloon placed atop the John's New York Systems Restaurant, at 827 Park Ave., which Eldridge runs.
The air-filled ape was wearing a white T-shirt with the message, "Norma, will you marry me? Love John."
This week, Eldridge and Martinelli said that busy schedules have prevented them from setting a specific date, but they are definitely headed down the aisle.
"We've just been so busy," said Eldridge, adding that she'd like to be a spring bride.
Martinelli said he has toyed with the idea of pulling the gorilla balloon stunt again when they get married -- only this time with two giant chimps. But Eldridge said she doesn't think that's going to happen.
"It was something special for the engagement," she said.
