2/5/96 'I have never seen so much concentrated devastation'
In the more than twenty years working for the EPA and responding to major oil spills around the globe, I have never seen so much concentrated devastation to exploitable marine resources as I did at the North Cape oil spill.A more somber and realistic situation could not be created for any of the practice training exercises that any of the regional response teams have put on, than what took place on Moonstone Beach; e.g., a wildlife refuge located in close proximity to such an important shellfish fishing area with critical sensitive habitats behind the barrier beaches. This one is for the books, believe me. Royal J. Nadeau, Ph.D USEPA Environmental Ressponse Team Edison, NJ nadeau.royal@epamail.epa.gov
