Winning entries will be
published on projo.com and in the Providence Journal (as space permits). The
writers of each of the 3 winning chapters will be invited to dine with Journal
writers G. Wayne and Alexis Magner Miller in Newport in autumn at a time and
place to be announced. Additional prizes may be announced as the contest unfolds.
Rules
for writers
1. The object of the projo.com
Interactive Mystery Writing Contest is to advance the plot of The Baby Hope
Theft, a tale in four parts. The first chapter was written by Journal staff
writer G. Wayne Miller; subsequent chapters are to be written by readers.
2. You may submit entries for any or all chapters -- deadlines are below. The
first chapter, plus writers' and artists' guidelines, contest rules, lists of
characters and clues, suggested plot outline and the story to date will remain
on line throughout the contest period at projo.com/specials/babyhope/index2.htm
3. To enter the contest, entrants must upload a chapter (a plain text file without
formatting) and fill out the information on the electronic
entry form here.
For entrants without computer access, send your typed, double-spaced entry to
Mystery Contest@projo.com, 75 Fountain St., Providence, R.I. 02902. Due to expected
volume, entries cannot be returned.
4. Winning entries will be published on projo.com, and in The Journal as space
permits. Here is the schedule of publication:

5. Preference will be given
to entries that follow the chapter
outlines here. As the story evolves, a list of clues will be posted there
as well to help writers keep their entries consistent with the story to date.
6. All entries must include name, address, date of birth, phone number and E-mail
address and be received no later than midnight on the submission dates above.
7. G. Wayne Miller will be among the Journal and projo.com staffers who judge
entries and select prizewinners; one winner per household, and Journal employees
are not eligible to win.
8. Entrants retain their copyright, but The Journal may reuse winning entries
as it sees fit.

for illustrators
1. The object of the projo.com
Interactive Mystery Illustration Contest is to illustrate and enhance the presentation
of The Baby Hope Theft. Any number of illustrations may be submitted
at any time during the contest.
2. The first chapter, plus writers' and artists' guidelines, contest rules,
lists of characters and clues, suggested plot outline and the story to date
will remain on line throughout the contest period at projo.com/specials/babyhope/index2.htm
3. To enter the contest,
entrants must upload electronic files in standard formats such as .jpg, .gif,
.tiff, etc., and fill out the information on the electronic
entry form here. (If you have difficulty uploading your image, fill out
the form and attach your digital file to an email addressed to lennon@projo.com)
4. Submissions on paper cannot be accepted.
5. Winning artists will be credited by name, and their illustrations posted
within the ongoing story at projo.com/specials/babyhope/index2.htm
Winning illustrations may also be published in The Journal.
6. G. Wayne Miller will be among the Journal and projo.com staffers judge who
entries and select prizewinners; one winner per household, and Journal employees
are not eligible to win.
7. Entrants retain their copyright, but The Journal may reuse winning entries

General
rules:
A. Prize fulfillment will
be handled by The Providence Journal. This
contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws. Winners will be
responsible for all local, state, and federal taxes, and all non-included
expenses arising from this contest. This is the responsibility of the winners
and not of The Providence Journal Company.
B. No purchase necessary to win.
C. One winner per household. By entering this contest, entrants agree to
be bound by these rules.
D. The prize must be accepted as awarded and is non-transferable.
There are no prize and/or cash substitutions.
E. Winner's entry and acceptance of prize constitute permission to use
his or her name, winning entry, photograph and likeness for purposes of
advertising and promotion on behalf of The Providence Journal
Company without compensation.
F. Employees and their immediate families of The Providence Journal
Company, any person related to this promotion and its production, or
other promotional partners and their respective parents, affiliates,
subsidiaries, or agencies are ineligible to participate in this contest.
G. This contest is void where prohibited by law.
H. Winner agrees that The Providence Journal Company and its
employees, directors, officers, affiliates, subsidiaries or agencies shall not
be liable for losses or injuries of any kind resulting from acceptance of
and/or participation in prize and/or contest.
I. Non-compliance with these rules may result in disqualification and
an alternate winner may be selected.
J. The Providence Journal Company is not responsible for lost, mutilated, illegible,
misdirected, late, stolen, incorrect or incomplete entries. Entrants assume
all risks of same.
K. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received.
L. Decisions of the judges are final.
M. The Providence Journal Company reserves the right to make
changes in the rules of the contest which will become effective upon
announcement.
