Chapter outlines

Chapter 1: By G. Wayne Miller. During a dinner party at Claire Spencer's Newport estate, a 22-carat diamond ring is stolen. Eclectic but brilliant private investigator Nick Nolan and his daughter Nancy get the case.

Chapter 2: By a reader. The investigation brings the Nolans to the woods of northwest Rhode Island. They're about to name a suspect when new information turns up that makes them question if they're right. Deadline: Tue., Aug. 1

Chapter 3: By a reader. The investigation moves to Providence. It seems to have reached a dead end, and Nick and Nancy wonder if they'll ever solve the crime. It would be their first failure. Deadline: Tue., Aug. 29

Final chapter: By a reader. Returning to high-society Newport, the Nolans catch a break and make quick progress on the case. By the end, they solve the mystery and get the Baby Hope Diamond back.Deadline: Tue., Sep. 26
