at Claire Spencer's Newport estate, a 22-carat diamond ring is stolen. Eclectic
but brilliant private investigator Nick Nolan and his daughter Nancy get the
case.

2: By a reader. The investigation brings the Nolans to the woods of northwest
Rhode Island. They're about to name a suspect when new information turns up
that makes them question if they're right.
