First Place
Katie Ciresi
Cranston High School West
Mendes rewarded for service

This news photo of the governor presenting an award to a soldier has a human element to it that distinguishes it as a superior picture. The photographer did well to spot the small boy in the foreground and position herself to include him in the picture.

Second Place
Grant Sullivan
Portsmouth High School
Pep rally pictures

Getting in close is always a good idea in news photography, and the photographer did just that in getting a good picture for the story about the pep rally.

Third Place
Zack McCune
Portsmouth Abbey School
Student stress

A photo to accompany a news story is almost always a good idea, and the photographer illustrated the story well. Often stories of this type are difficult to illustrate, but the picture made the story into a stronger package.
