Photojournalism Category 1st Place Moses Brown School Katie Pyle The Quaker "This entry is a good example of story narrative and photography working together. The photographs do what they need to do - show the trader what is going on. The pictures were not posed, but real time pictures that were well composed and exposed. The photographer went to the effort of spending time with the students, having them feel comfortable amend her, rather than pose the picture. This is a professional approach in modem photojournalism, and she is to be commended for it." 2nd Place South Kingstown High School Trista Hawkins The Rebellion "The picture illustrates the story in an unposed, candid way without ridiculing the subject. The story is a newsworthy one, and the photographer’s challenge was to show the scene in a sensitive way. The person in the photo is much like a victim - someone who has a problem that is being addressed in the story. The photographer did well to obscure the subject’s faces while at the same time giving the newspaper reader a sense of place." 3rd Place Cranston High School West Katie Ciresi The West Wind "This is a spot news photo - and it is where it belongs, on the front pages of the paper. The photographer did well to get to an elevated position and show the scene. The mayor, students, and media all combine to show a scene of activity that is important to the school. Also, the photograph was well exposed — showing a great amount of detail that helps tell the full story to the reader." |
