High School Division Illustration/Comic/Editorial Cartoon Category 1st Place Barrington High School Jared Luther The Talon "Congratulations. Your editorial cartoon “Zee Governa” has won first place in The Providence Journal Scholastic Journalism Competition. Your artwork is very well drawn and thought out as well as entertaining. It addressed many of the issues of a Hollywood actor being a political figure in a tun to read parody. It was well done." 2nd Place Bishop Hendricken High School Chris Petteruti Talon "Congratulations. Your editorial cartoon “The Future of America” has won second place in The Providence Journal Scholastic Journalism Competition. Your cartoon comparing the California election process to a reality television show was very clever. It was the second entry that dealt with the California Gubernatorial election process and the decision for a winner was a tough one to make. I would really encourage you enter again next year. You have a nice drawing style and a funny sense of humor. Thank you for entering the competition." 3rd Place Middletown High School Liz Kolator The Wave "Congratulations. Your editorial cartoon “Gas Masks!” has won third place in The Providence Journal’s Scholastic Journalism Competition. I can only imagine, not being a student at Middletown, that the lunches must leave a bit to be desired. The gas mask illustration was certainly a way of hitting the reader over the head with your funny take on the issue. You draw well and it showed in this cartoon. Thank you for entering the competition." |
