High School Best Newspaper
Best Newspaper The Current Wave North Kingstown High School "This newspaper rocks! Its content is true to its mission statement (first one I've seen in a school paper). Each issue has an incredible range of story topics. Lots of students & faculty are represented in each issue. The 'student vs. teacher' column is a terrific idea. 'He said/she said' is well done. The 'back page' is sure to be well read. The writing is consistently excellent. Story tone is appropriate to topic. Many leads are catchy. Stories don’t seem forced. Students & faculty are quoted. Structurally there are few writing problems. Easy to look at, especially later issue w/new text font or large type. It particularly has creative use of type, ruler, etc. modules, and creative use of art. The addition of full color is used responsibly & is appropriately overdone on the back page. I can easily imagine people wanting to read this paper, cover to cover, both because of its content & because it is so visually pleasing." 1st Runner-up The West Wind Cranston West High School "Consistently good effort and variety. Excellent choices in story topics. Generally well done. Good form. Generally good. Congratulations." 2nd Runner-up Patriot Ledger Portsmouth High School "The size of the paper provides room & the stuff makes good use of it to publish lots of stories, mostly short. There is good variety. The 'what’s up' calendar gets out lots of info efficiently. The 'spotlights' are a good way to acknowledge student achievement. The stories also work in lots of students & teachers. Two issues included original polls of students on topics of great interest. Virtually every story is easy to read. Stories are generally well organized & grammatically correct. In general, the paper looks good." 3rd Runner-up The Quaker Moses Brown School "The writing in this newspaper is noticeably strong. Reading this paper, one gets a sense of the writers. The editorials are to be commended. Congratulations." |
