Middletown High School

Maggie Drayton

The Wave

”'Body Art' could have run in the pages of The Providence Journal.  It is a well-written, well-researched breezy story that neither minimizes the topic, nor preaches about it.  The writer details the process of body art but includes lots of real life experiences."

2nd Place

Barrington High School

Sam Clark

The Talon

"An ambitious profile to attempt.  The writer not only had to take the reader through a teacher's career but also had to capture her passion.  He did this with a judicious use of quotes and nicely written details.  The profile revealed the interviewer asked the right questions to evoke some nice stories and reveal a passion for Latin.  Especially nice was the use of a single Latin phrase at the end.  A winner."

3rd Place

North Kingstown High School

Brittany Nugent

The Current Wave

"The writer opens the story as she lived/experienced the interviewer.  In an art profile, the device works nicely to draw the reader into the story.  It was also an effective tool to explain the way the artist works.  Nicely written.  A winner."
