1 quart milk, scalded
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon mace or cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 to 3/4 cup grape nuts cereal
4 large eggs, beaten
Combine all ingredients. Turn into greased baking dish, set it in pan of hot water, having water come nearly to the top of the dish holding the custard.
Bake at 325 degrees until set, about 1 1/4 hours. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with lemon juice, if desired.
