Changes in Providence's black population
In 2000, segregation in Providence dropped to its lowest level in at least seven decades. During the 1990s, black population losses in parts of the West End and South Providence left the city without any majority black census tracts. The black population rose in other parts of Providence and surrounding cities and towns.

The shadings represent the percentage of residents in each census tract who are black.
