PROVIDENCE -- The U.S. Attorney's Office has charged former state Sen. John A. Celona with defrauding the state's citizens by accepting money and gifts from corporations that had interests in legislation before the General Assembly. Celona has agreed to plead guilty to three counts, according to an agreement filed in federal court today, and to cooperate with the government in a continuing investigation. He was indicted on similar state charges last month.
