Before you renovate
If
the house you are living in was built before 1978, it probably has lead
paint on it , even if it has been recently painted. Any
renovation work on older houses has the potential to generate dangerous
lead-paint dust and flakes.
That's why the "Keep It Clean" campaign is trying to educate homeowners
so they will follow basic lead-safe precautions when they work on their
houses. Sponsored by the New England Lead Coordinating Committee at Tufts
University School of Medicine, the campaign educates hardware and paint-store
employees and gives them instructional materials to hand out to customers.
The campaign also recommends methods to test the work to determine whether
walls, doors, and windows have been left lead-free.
