Lead
screening centers
Most children who are lead poisoned or have an
elevated blood lead level were exposed to lead dust by eating it or, more
often, breathing it. Lead dust from paint, lead paint chips, soil, and
lead in water are the most common sources of lead for children. A simple
blood test is the only way to know if a child has been exposed to lead.
Blood is collected from either a vein (more accurate) or a finger stick
test. Doctors can order a screening for lead during a regular check-up.
