Michael Corkery, 27, grew up in Gloucester, Mass., and started working for The Providence Journal in 1997 as a two-year intern. After completing his internship, he worked as a reporter for The Burlington Free Press, in Vermont. He returned to The Journal as a staff writer in 2000.
Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, Corkery has written extensively on the history and future of Afghanistan, which he studied at Brown University.
