Felice J. Freyer
has covered medicine for The Providence Journal for 14 years.
She has reported on the use of technology to prevent medical errors,
genetic testing for cancer and the effect of The Station fire
disaster on the Rhode Island Hospital staff. In 1997, she wrote
``A Time to Die,''
about a man with Lou Gehrig's disease fighting for the right to
commit suicide. She was the first recipient, in 1998, of the Journal's
in-house award for all-around excellence in reporting. She has
received the Morse Award from the American Psychiatric Association
and, twice, the Will Solimene Excellence in Medical Communications
Award from the New England chapter of the American Medical Writers
Association.
Mary Murphy has been a photographer at The Providence
Journal for 21 years. Previously she worked at The Day in New
London and the Narragansett Times. She has photographed the Plunder
Dome trial of former Mayor Vincent A. ``Buddy'' Cianci; ``The
Stranger,'' the story about Bishop Geralyn Wolf's homeless exploration;
the New England Patriots; the series on public schools in Rhode
Islands, ``Teaching Matters;'' ``Suspended,''
on school suspensions; and ``The Family Way'' on surrogate motherhood.
