Feb. 22, 2003: Station co-owner Jeffrey A. Derderian
weeps at a news conference in which he denies that his nightclub authorized
pyrotechnics on Feb. 20.
May 22: Survivors of The Station fire and relatives
of those who perished testify before a legislative commission studying
the state's fire code.
June 5: The 17-member panel studying the fire laws recommends
a radical code update, requiring sprinklers in many nightclubs and abolishing
the grandfather clause in the state fire code.
June 30: Jeff Derderian resigns from his job as a reporter
for Channel 12 news.
July 7: Governor Carcieri signs "The Comprehensive Fire
Safety Act of 2003," which overhauls the state's fire safety codes.
Dec. 9: Grand jury indicts Jeff Derderian, his brother
and Station co-owner Michael A. Derderian, and music tour manager Daniel
M. Biechele, in connection with the 100 deaths at The Station.
