Darigan Jr. announced today that prosecutors and lawyers for the three men charged
with the deaths of 100 people in The Station nightclub fire have reached an
agreement that should pave the way for further testing of polyurethane foam,
the kind that lined the walls and ceiling of the club.

PROVIDENCE -- Ninety seconds after The Station
nightclub caught fire on Feb. 20, 2003, gases inside the club were already hot
enough to melt silver, although a federal investigation has concluded that fire
sprinklers could have kept the club close to room temperature long enough for
the crowd to escape.

Derderians ordered to pay deceased workers' families
PROVIDENCE -- A Rhode Island Workers' Compensation
Court judge yesterday ordered the owners of The Station to pay more than $200,000
for funeral expenses and lost wages to the families of a waitress, a bouncer,
a ticket-taker and a door security worker who were killed in the nightclub fire
on Feb. 20, 2003.
NIST recommendations
In a report on The Station nightclub fire released
yesterday, the National Institute of Standards and Technology offered recommendations
that the agency hopes will be incorporated into fire protection ‘‘model
codes,’’ such as those developed by the National Fire Protection
Association. Many state governments, including Rhode Island’s, use all
or part of the NFPA codes as state law.

PROVIDENCE -- A state Workers' Compensation Court
judge today ordered the owners of The Station nightclub to pay more than $200,000
for funeral expenses and lost wages to the families of a waitress, a bouncer
and two security workers killed in the disastrous fire at the club two years
ago.

PROVIDENCE -- Lawyers representing the families of four Station nightclub employees killed in the fire of Feb. 20, 2003, will ask a state Workers' Compensation Court judge today to order the nightclub's owners, Michael and Jeffrey Derderian, to pay death benefits and lost wages.

PROVIDENCE -- In the hope of preventing another
tragedy like The Station nightclub fire, a federal agency today recommended
the installation of sprinklers in all nightclubs, tighter restrictions on the
use of flammable materials and better exits so people can get out of buildings
during emergencies.

Station fire briefing will be open to community
The federal agency investigating The Station nightclub fire announced yesterday that the public will be allowed to attend a news briefing tomorrow at which the agency will announce its findings and recommendations.
