Chronology of the Victoria E. Cushman
murder case
Aug. 10-11, 1989: Victoria E. Cushman is
murdered.
Aug. 11, 1989: Jeffrey Scott Hornoff is questioned and released.
Oct. 21, 1991: State police take over the murder investigation.
Nov. 13, 1992: State police interview Hornoff.
March 25, 1993: State police interview Hornoff again.
Dec. 28, 1994: A statewide grand jury indicts Hornoff.
Dec. 29, 1994: Hornoff pleads not guilty and is released on bail.
May 13, 1996: Hornoff's murder trial begins.
June 19, 1996: Jury convicts Hornoff of first-degree murder.
July 2, 1996: Judge Robert D. Krause denies Hornoff's request for
a new trial.
July 10, 1996: Hornoff is sentenced to life in prison.
Oct. 28, 1999: Judge Krause denies Hornoff's second motion for
a new trial.
Oct. 24, 2000: The state Supreme Court denies Hornoff's motion
for a new trial.
Nov. 3, 2002: Todd J. Barry confesses to the state police that
he killed Cushman.
Nov. 4, 2002: Barry is arraigned on second-degree murder charges.
Nov. 6, 2002: Hornoff is freed on personal recognizance.
Jan 6, 2003: Barry pleads guilty and is sentenced to 30 years;
charges against Hornoff are dismissed.
