CVS/pharmacy Delivers Disaster Relief in Iowa Communities Impacted by Recent Flooding

WOONSOCKET, R.I., July 3 -- The CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Caremark, announced today that it has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts throughout the more than 80 counties in Iowa declared federal or state disaster areas due to recent storms, tornadoes and flooding. In addition, CVS/pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Caremark, has donated over $35,000 in product and services to these affected areas.

In Cedar Rapids alone, thousands were evacuated and homes were destroyed. Parts of the downtown area remain without power. The Red Cross has set up emergency kitchens to feed approximately 6,000 people a day who are trying to clean up but have no electricity. Responding to an urgent request, CVS/pharmacy shipped a supply of hand sanitizer, insect repellant, sunscreen and work gloves to The Red Cross in Cedar Rapids.

"We are grateful to CVS for their financial and in-kind donations which will help provide relief to affected communities throughout the Central United States," said Jeffrey Towers, Chief Development Officer at the American Red Cross. "CVS is a long-time supporter of the Red Cross, particularly during times of disaster, and we thank them for their continued generosity."

CVS/pharmacy operates seven stores in the affected flood cities of Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, Iowa City and Waterloo. Items including water, sunscreen, and diapers were donated directly from stores. Additionally, CVS/pharmacy associates visited local shelters to assist those displaced from their homes with medication and various over-the-counter necessities, and to help with the sand bagging and clean-up efforts.

"We are very concerned about the impact these storms have had on our customers, employees and communities," said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President, CVS Caremark Charitable Trust. "We are pleased to assist disaster relief and recovery efforts with donations from CVS/pharmacy and the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust to the American Red Cross, and through the volunteer efforts of our associates."
