Steve Mumford was born in Boston in 1960 and now lives and paints in New York City. Between August 2003 and December 2004, he spent 10 and a half months as a war artist embedded with American troops in Iraq. Artnet Magazine has posted his installments from Iraq and now presents the entire series. The work doesn't take a political stance, or try to interpret the war, it records his immediate surroundings; soldiers, shopkeepers, and the Iraqi artists he meets.
