Joe served his community of New Bedford and his nation with honor, dignity and pride. He was a firm believer in the motto of Duty, Honor, Country. The standards he set are an example for all of us to follow. When an individual of this caliber pays the ultimate price lt is a loss to the entire nation.Thank you Joe, for your service, your sacrifice and the example you set. I will always remember that sheepish smile of yours. May HE hold you in the palm of his hand.CSM Ray Funaro

It is with great sadness that I write this message. SSG Joe Camera was a great American and fine soldier. On behalf of all the officers, NCOs, and soldiers assigned to Task Force Enforcer – Falluhah, Iraq and the 211th Military Police Battalion, I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to Joe’s Family and friends. Joe and Todd are both American heroes who laid down their lives while protecting others. There is a special place in Heaven for people like this. I worked very close with both of these wonderful guys for the past 4 months, during some pretty difficult times. Even in the worst of times these men could be counted on to perform their mission to the highest standard, display great bravery, and never lose their sense of humor. I realize that my words can do very little to ease the suffering that you all are dealing with, but I hope that you can take some comfort in knowing that these two young men had the admiration and respect of all the officers and soldiers that they served with. They displayed great valor and patriotism, they will be greatly missed.
With deepest Regrets,

To the Family of SSG Josepg Camara...words cannot express the heartfelt loss you are going through right now, but know this...I had the pleasure of service with Joe since Feb. Joe was always looked at like the favorite Uncle that came over to visit and kept all the "kiddies" in line so to speak. He was looked up to for direction, advice and sometimes just knowing he was there, everyone knew it was going to be ok. Joe touched all of us in one way or another, not just in 1st Platoon, but throughout the entire Company. He was greatly respected for his knowdledge and personality in dealing with others. He was truly one of Gods special people. God bless you, his family in this time of sorrow. He is truly a Real American Hero to all the people that knew him, served with him in the National Guard and the New bedford PD.

To the Camara family,
I send you my deepest sorrows for the loss of such a fine man. I was one of the medics called to the scene where Joseph and Charles begain their journey. Though sorrow surrounded all of us that day, I couldn't help but feel in my heart that they were in a better place and that God smiled upon both of them for a life of selfless service, not only to their country and their families but to all humanity. Days later I would learn of the extent of Josephs service and I have to say this, the people he worked with, the family he loves and the country he served all shall be the better for having had Joseph touch them all.
God bless you all who love this great man.
