May Kyle rest in peace and our heartfelt sorrow goes out to his wife and family. Our Daughter was a friend of Kyle's from North Attleboro and graduated in the same class. We were sad to hear of the news. God Bless

My heart and prayers go out to the VanDeGiesen Family. Kyle and I were neighbors and fellow Marines for about 3 years. I must express what a HUGE loss this is not just for his family and the Marine Corps but for our country as well. Kyle was a special person whose devotion to duty could never be questioned. More than just a great American, he was a great human being.

I did not know Capt VanDeGiesen or his family, but know the brother of one of his fellow pilots. Late last night I received a phone call to pray for the whole situation. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this time of grieving. I thank Capt. VanDeGiesen for his service to our country and to his family for supporting him in his service to our country.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Capt. Kyle Van De Giessen. My heart aches for you, and you will remain in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that the deep hurt you feel can be in some part be eased by the feeling of great pride for Kyle’s valor and deep sense of patriotism. He will always be remembered as an American Hero by my family and we will never forget the great sacrifice made by your family.
In spite of all that happened here in New York City that dark Tuesday morning eight years ago, millions continue to live and work here without fear, because of our awesome U.S. Military. We still stand tall and proud here today, thanks to wonderful American patriots such as your Kyle.
To Kyle I would say, you have made the ultimate sacrifice and did so willingly and without hesitation. Thank you so very much for defending my freedoms. It means so much to me, to the people of NYC and to the entire nation. Thank you for your bravery and sacrifice in the service of the country that I love so very much.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
May God be with you until we all meet at Jesus’ feet. Most Sincerely, Pat

Dear VanDeGeisen Family, After more than 40 years I find myself still writing to the family of a fallen Marine to express my gratitude for your son's sense of duty. Two tours in Vietnam required many letters like this and I thought I would become steeled to this duty. However, even today my heart aches when we lose one of our finest and your son Kyle was truly one of the finest sons, husbands, fathers and friend. There are many words which will be written and spoken about Captain VanDeGiesen and memories and love will sustain all of you. To you Captain I say "SEMPER FI" and ooooooooooooooorah my brother. May God bless you and comfort your family. You shall be in my prayers with all of my fallen Marines and their families.

I was one of Kyle's teachers at North Attleboro High School. He was truly a humble, honorable gentleman. When Kyle earned his wings, I hand delivered a congratulatory card to his home. There was not need to obtain anyone's attention, so I just dropped it in the mailbox. I must admit, after 36 years in education, I am absolutely overwhelmed by Kyle's demise. Now, in my final year of any educational career, I teach physical education. During this week, I spoke to all of my period one students about Kyle. "Remember, he was just like you; he walked through this gym and he participated in classes such as this one. So, when you look at that flag, remember that Kyle's sacrifice made this possible for you." There was absolute silence.
