Celtics choose guard Lester Hudson
12:18 AM EDT on Friday, June 26, 2009
As expected, the Boston Celtics did not make any deals to move up in the draft.
Instead, with a championship-contender team already in place, the Celtics selected guard Lester Hudson from the University of Tennessee-Martin with the 58th pick of the draft.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder was the second-leading scorer in college basketball last year behind Stephen Curry, averaging 27.5 points per game. He is the only player in Division I history to record a quadruple-double (2007). He also makes good decisions with the basketball.
Boston's president of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, said the Celtics will try to get better by picking up a talented free agent or two, preferably a big man, next month.
"I anticipate that we will be involved in the free-agent market," Ainge said. "Whether we get the guys we want or not, we are not just going to get anybody, but there are some players that we would like to make a run at."
