03:17 PM EDT on Wednesday, August 6, 2008

BOSTON (AP) - The NBA champion Boston Celtics will begin their title defense against the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James on Oct. 28 in Boston.

The team's 2008-2009 schedule, released Wednesday, has the Celtics hosting the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 31 before playing their first road game against the Indiana Pacers on Nov. 1.

Boston beat Cleveland in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, then eliminated the Detroit Pistons in six games in the conference finals. The Celtics won their 17th NBA title, and first since 1986, in six games against the Los Angeles Lakers.

They play the Lakers on Christmas Day in Los Angeles.

Boston has 25 games scheduled for national television.
