Delonte appreciates the cheers from Boston fans
08:57 AM EDT on Friday, May 9, 2008
BOSTON -- Delonte West heard cheers when he was introduced at the Garden for the first two games of the series and he’s very appreciative. Although West played on poor Celtics’ teams over the previous three seasons, he always gave a strong effort and was praised for his toughness.
“I might not have been doing everything wrong when I was here,” West said. “It shows what Celtics’ fans are all about. When I was here, I played to win. I didn’t play for stats. Things like that go a long way.”
West was a college shooting guard who’s first taste of the point-guard position came when he stepped on the floor for the Celtics. Now with the Cavs, he’s a point man in name only. LeBron James is the player who has the ball in his hands and runs most of the offensive sets, but West is capable of helping out and banging home big jump shots.
“A lot of people here (in Boston) pointed out things I couldn’t do instead do looking at my potential,” West said. “In this league, you have to be able to do more than one thing. You have to be a player.”
