BOSTON -- Orien Greene, Boston's third selection (53rd overall) in last week's NBA Draft, will not play with the Celtics in the Reebok Vegas Summer League, which gets under way tomorrow. Greene underwent surgery yesterday to repair "a slight fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his left foot," said team spokesman Jeff Twiss.
Greene, a 6-foot-4 guard from Louisiana-Lafayette, arrived in Boston late last week to begin working out with the team, said Twiss, and the injury was discovered sometime "in the last few days."
Dr. Brian McKeon performed the surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. There is no timetable yet on his return to action.
