Rasheed Wallace reportedly agrees to join Celtics
07:24 AM EDT on Monday, July 6, 2009
Free-agent forward Rasheed Wallace reportedly has agreed to a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics.
Wallace, who played for the Detroit Pistons last season, will sign with Boston on Wednesday, the first day NBA free agents are allowed to sign, for the mid-level exception, which is expected to be $5.6 million to $5.8 million, according to Boston.com.
Orlando and San Antonio also were believed to be in the running for Wallace, who won a championship with the Pistons in 2004. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, owner Wyc Grousbeck, coach Doc Rivers and president Danny Ainge traveled to Detroit last week to try to convince Wallace to come to Boston.
The 6-foot-11, 230-pound forward turns 35 in September. He averaged 12 points and 7.4 rebounds a game for Detroit last season. Selected by Washington in the first-round out of North Carolina in 1995, Wallace was paid $13.9 million last season.
