•Thu. Marion Eppley Wildlife Sanctuary, West Kingston. Rare opportunity to explore this refuge, which is closed to the public except for guided, educational programs. 7:30 am.

•Fri. Fisherville Brook Refuge, Exeter. Explore the refuge in search of neo-tropical migrants. Observe birds including northern waterthrush, prairie warblers, bluebirds, scarlet tanagers and others. Bring binoculars. 8 am.

•Thu. Lecture: North Peru –– Megadiversity and Endemism, by Robert Williams, coordinator and researcher for the Frankfurt Zoological Society’s large-scale rainforest conservation project in southeast Peru. 7 pm.

•Thu. Baskets and Blooms, Tri-Pond Nature Center, Asapond Road (off Curtis Corner Road), South Kingstown. Participants create a bird’s nest-style basket using natural materials and then fill it with a live flowering plant. All materials provided. With Laura Carberry. 7-8:30 pm. $24, South Kingstown residents $19. Youth 12 and older welcome if accompanied by an adult.

•Thu. Gardening for Butterflies and Hummingbirds, Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge, 12 Sanderson Rd., Routes 44 and 5, Smithfield. Discover gardening techniques, design ideas and plant choices for attracting birds, butterflies and other creatures to your yard with refuge manager and gardener Kim Calcagno. 6:30-8 pm. $12, members $8.

Bird Walk, Gilbert Stuart Nature Trail, Gilbert Stuart Museum, 815 Gilbert Stuart Rd., North Kingstown. With Walter Berry and Wayne Munns, biologists and experiences bird-watchers and behaviorists. Sat 9 am. $5. Limited participation; first-come, first-served. Use precautions against deer ticks. Advance registration by Thu. 294-3001.

International Migratory Bird Day, Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, off Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, South Kingstown. 364-9124. Theme is Tropics to Tundra: Connecting Birds, Habitats and People. Live Birds of Prey Show, nature crafts, Junior Birder Patches to earn, educational displays, binoculars to loan, hiking trails, T-shirt sale, free posters/bird tattoos, guided bird walk. Sat 10 am-3 pm.

Mother’s Day Nature Walk, Carter Preserve, Route 112, Charlestown. 529-1072 or e-mail tmooney@tnc.org. 2.5-mile walk through dry oak woods and forested wetlands, with stops to look for early wildflowers and listen for returning songbirds. Meet in parking lot. Sun 2:30 pm. Call to register. Free.

See how nature can coexist close to a major business district, with emphasis on tree identification and basic forestry concepts. Moderate two- to three-mile hike. Sat 10 am-noon. $5, members $3.

Spring Bird Walk, Mount Hope Farm, 250 Metacom Ave., Bristol. Diverse wildlife habitat with woodlands and freshwater marshes features several species of ducks, warblers, woodpeckers, flycatchers, swallows, sparrows, raptors, cooper’s hawks, peregrine falcons. Along the bay, marsh birds and bay ducks may be seen. With birder Raymond P. Payson. Wear light-colored clothing; bring insect repellent and binoculars.
