The Big Nazo Puppets will be the featured performers at the RISD Museum’s Free-For-All Saturday kids’ event, “Styroworld,“ showing how artists use Styrofoam in their creations.

Special programs: Global Games, ages 5-11 learn the many ways mancala is played around the world Thu 3-5 pm. Stories Aloud, preschoolers see a puppet show of Hansel and Gretel, make their own pretend candy cottages and nibble on a sweet treat Fri 9:10 am-1:40 pm. Walk-in registration on a space available basis for an $8 fee above the price of admission. Stomp Rockets, ages 5-11 use the power of air to blast a rocket across the room Sat 1-3 pm. Ocho’s Art Cart, ages 3-11 create a sunny beach scene with sandcastles and sea creatures Sun 3-5 pm.
NATURE

Families learn the secrets of fireflies before heading out to the woods and fields around the center to look for and try to catch them Sat7:45 pm. Tales on the Lawn — Nature Stories for Families, Powder Mill Ledges Wildlife Refuge, 12 Sanderson Rd., Routes 44 and 5, Smithfield. 949-5454; www.asri.org. Spread out your blanket and listen to wild tales of animals and plants; perhaps a live animal will visit Fri 6:30-8:30 pm. Members: $8 adult/child pair, $4 each additional member; nonmembers: $12 adult/child pair, $6 each additional nonmember. Moves inside in the event of rain.

Interactive nature story followed by an exploration of the refuge trails. Discover animals, native plants, habitats, marine life and more. For children under age 8. Registration not required. •Bugging Out, Marvelous Marvin’s show is all about bugs, insects and outdoor exploration with poems, circus arts, magic tricks and music. Thu 7 pm.

Styroworld, kids can check out the Museum’s Styrofoam exhibit and find out how artists create works using this material, make their own cool Styrofoam art and get in on the building of a styrotower. The Big Nazo Puppets animate the program with zany antics and costumes. Sat 11 am-4 pm. Admission, refreshments and activities are free.
