Jobless training grants
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, May 18, 2008
Unemployed workers in Rhode Island may be eligible for up to $4,000 in free short-term career training through the federal Workforce Investment Act, according to the state Department of Labor and Training. Once career counselors at netWORKri, a group of employment centers run by the Department of Labor and Training, assess an applicant’s eligibility and suitability for training, they can place the workers into one of 100 approved programs in areas such as welding, dental assistant training, cosmetology, and certified nursing assistant training.
For a complete list of approved programs, go to the Department of Labor and Training Web site at www.dlt.ri.gov/wio/programs.htm. To set up an assessment with a career counselor, call (888) 616-5627 or go to the nearest netWORKri center: Providence, 1 Reservoir Ave.; Pawtucket, 175 Main St.; Woonsocket, 219 Pond St., West Warwick, 1330 Main St.; Middletown, 73 Valley Rd.
