FUEL GAUGE
01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 8, 2008
A new fuel tracker that monitors the prices of gasoline, diesel fuel and home heating oil starts today and will appear every Tuesday in The Providence Journal. The data are compiled by the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources, which conducts surveys every Monday of gasoline stations, oil and fuel dealers.
The fuel gauge this week shows that after gasoline prices slipped three cents during the last two weeks in June, the average price of regular, self-service unleaded rose two cents yesterday to $4.109 a gallon. The prices ranged from a low of $4.079 to a high of $4.119.
The survey showed unleaded plus gasoline sold at an average of $4.259 a gallon and premium gas sold at an average of $4.379 a gallon.
The average price of home heating oil set a record at $4.719, up 7 cents from a week ago. The prices ranged from $4.999 to $4.459.
Diesel fuel also rose 1 cent to $4.929 a gallon.
