Canstruction competition aims to build up food bank
01:00 AM EDT on Saturday, September 13, 2008

This sculpture, called In a STEWie Over Hunger, was created by the Lerner Ladds + Bartels/Shawmut Design and Construction team, in last year’s Canstruction Rhode Island competition to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Local architects and construction firms for the second year in a row will contribute to Canstruction, a competition featuring sculptures built entirely from canned food and intended to help feed the hungry in Rhode Island. Last year, more than 30,000 pounds of food was donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The sculptures will be exhibited in the concourse between the Westin hotel and Providence Place mall, from today through Sept. 26. On Sept. 27, the sculptures will be deconstructed and the cans will be donated.
