RIPTA launches its summer bus schedule

Many of the RIPTA buses leaving Kennedy Plaza will have changed times for the summer.

PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority on Saturday will begin its annual summer service schedule.

The annual changes include the start of selected summer services and trip time changes, including extending daily service on Bus Route 67 (Bellevue/Mansions/Salve Regina University) to the southern end of Bellevue Avenue and to the Cliff Walk. That extension begins Saturday.

RIPTA will begin express service to South County beaches on Saturday, June 27.

The express buses will run on weekends only from the Woonsocket Depot, Cranston City Hall, Central Falls (400 Dexter St.), the Pawtucket Transit Center and North Providence (Tim Hortons) to the Salty Brine, Roger Wheeler and Scarborough beaches. These buses will stop at Kennedy Plaza. The one-way fare is $1.75.

Express service to the beaches will continue to Aug. 10. Passengers should consult the Bus Route 66 (URI/Galilee) schedule for details.

Daily service on the URI/Galilee route from Kennedy Plaza to the South County beaches continues in the summer, running every 80 minutes.

Other service changes include:

•New service through Newport and Middletown, on Bus Route 231 (South Aquidneck Flex).

•Bus Route 9 (Pascoag) will now end at Main Street and Bridge Way in Pascoag.

•Bus Route 32 (West Barrington) will now operate via the East Side between Providence and East Providence.
