PROVIDENCE –– Bentley scored a pair of third-period goals four minutes apart to erase a 2-1 deficit and hand Brown a 3-2 loss in a nonleague contest Tuesday evening at Meehan Auditorium.

MEN: BROWN at BRYANT BRYANT (0-4): The Bulldogs hope for a little home cooking in their home opener. This will be the team’s fourth game in Rhode Island but first at home. Opening three losses came at the World Vision Invitational in Providence…Game will be second-consecutive against an Ivy League opponent, coming just five days after a 77-51 loss at Harvard…The Bulldogs have faced off against Ivy League opponents five times in their short Division I history, going 1-4 against the conference. All-time, Bryant is just 1-10 against the Ivies. PROVIDENCE –– Sophomore Sean Rosa entered Thursday night’s NCAA Tournament game with four goals this season, but his fifth was the biggest of the Bears’ season as Rosa scored at the 103:02 mark to give Brown a 1-0 double-overtime triumph over Stony Brook. The win gives the Bears their first NCAA victory since 2007.

PROVIDENCE –– Providence College took a 2-0 first-period lead and then held off Brown’s third-period comeback to earn a 4-3 victory in the 24th annual Mayor’s Cup men’s hockey game Tuesday night at PC’s Schneider Arena.

Brown earns at-large bid in NCAA soccer tournament
The Brown men’s soccer team received an At-Large bid in the 2009 Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday evening. The Bears will host Stony Brook (6-9-4) at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19, at Stevenson Field.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) –– Malcolm Delaney scored 21 points and Jeff Allen added 17 as Virginia Tech opened the season with a 69-55 victory over Brown on Sunday.

College hockey: No. 3 Cornell overpowers Brown
PROVIDENCE — Cornell scored two goals in a span of 13 seconds midway through the first period and cruised from there, beating Brown, 6-0, Saturday night at Meehan Auditorium.

College football: Farnham’s overtime TD wins it for Brown
PROVIDENCE — Brown senior wide receiver Buddy Farnham caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in overtime, and senior defensive end James Develin stopped Dartmouth for a two-yard loss on the final play of the game, lifting the Bears to a 14-7 overtime victory over the Big Green at rain-swept Brown Stadium on Saturday.

Brown’s Sewall, Farnham prepare for farewell performance in front of home fans
PROVIDENCE — When they update the history of Brown football, they will have to write a few paragraphs on Bobby Sewall and the 2007 Dartmouth game and Buddy Farnham and the 2009 Princeton game, unless Brown’s Dynamic Duo shreds Dartmouth’s defense Saturday in their final home game at Brown Stadium. Then the historians will have to include those exploits.
