P-Bruins 4, Wolf Pack 3: Marchand’s overtime goal wins it

PROVIDENCE –– The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-3, in overtime yesterday afternoon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
The first-place P-Bruins got their goals from Martin St. Pierre, Andrew Bodnarchuk, Martins Karsums and Brad Marchand.
The Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead at 5:57 of the opening period. Brian Fahey stole the puck and scored his first goal of the season, unassisted. The P-Bruins made it 1-1 at the 14:20 mark. Matt Marquardt sent the puck down the left boards to Byron Bitz. He found St. Pierre cutting toward the net and St. Pierre scored his seventh goal of the season.
Providence took its first lead of the game at the 19:39 mark. Bitz took the puck off the boards and tossed it to Bodnarchuk halfway up the left boards. He shot the puck past Wolf Pack goaltender Matt Zaba for his first goal of the season.
In the second period, the P-Bruins took a 3-1 advantage at the 6:17 mark on the power play. Vladimir Sobotka worked the puck out from behind the net to Matt Lashoff, who took a shot on net. The puck went past Wolf Pack goalie Miika Wiikman but didn’t go in until Karsums poked it into the net for his 10th goal of the season.
Hartford pulled within a goal at the 11:26 mark. Mike Ouellette netted his second goal of the season, while Vladimir Denisov and Jordan Owens had the assists.
Hartford made it 3-3 at the 6:54 mark of the third period. Artem Anisimov tallied his seventh goal of the season with Fahey and Bobby Sanguinetti getting the assists.
At 3:33 of the extra session, Johnny Boychuk sent the puck to Zach Hamill along the right boards. He put a shot on net and Wiikman was there to make the save, but the rebound was free and Marchand sent it in for the game-winner and his fifth goal of the season.
Tuukka Rask stopped 29 of 32 shots for the P-Bruins, while Zaba made 10 saves and Wiikman 20 saves for the Wolf PackThe P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday evening against the Devils at 7:05 for Winter Hat Night.
The P-Bruins are then home Sunday afternoon against the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 for Matt Lashoff Poster Night. 4 3 Next Game Friday vs. Lowell 7:05 p.m.
