P-Bruins 7, Portland 2: Sobotka and Wozniewski lead Providence over Pirates

PROVIDENCE –– Vladimir Sobotka and Andy Wozniewski scored two goals apiece to lead the Providence Bruins to a 7-2 victory over the Portland Pirates on Sunday at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Other scores for the P-Bruins came from Brad Marchand, Adam McQuaid and Kirk MacDonald.

After the game, Boston recalled Sobotka, Marchand and Guillaume Lefebvre from the P-Bruins.

Portland took a 1-0 lead at 3:00 of the opening period. Cody McCormick tallied his second goal of the season, after Felix Schutz and Philip Gogulla provided assists. The P-Bruins made it 1-1 at 4:28 on Sobotka’s goal. Zach Hamill and Marchand assisted on the play.

Providence took the lead at 7:40, while on the power play, when Marchand scored his sixth goal of the season. The P-Bruins made it 3-1 at 14:08 of the first when Wozniewski scored, also on the power play.

McQuaid gave Providence a 4-1 lead at 15:12 of the second period for his first goal of the season. Almost five minutes later, Wozniewski made it 5-1 for fourth goal of the season and second of the game.

The P-Bruins made the score 6-1 only nine seconds into the third period and cruised to victory.

Dany Sabourin stopped 23 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 19 saves and Jean-Philippe Lamoureux made 12 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 4-for-10 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
