Young visionaries
01:00 AM EST on Sunday, January 29, 2006
Out of nearly 700 entries from 51 middle, junior high and high schools, five have been selected as American Visions -- the top winners in this year's Rhode Island Scholastic Art Awards.
The winning pieces -- selected by area professional artists, graphic designers and retired art educators -- join 75 Gold Key winners and 18 winning fine arts and photography portfolios in heading for New York City for a national competition. But first they, and 125 Silver Key winners, will be on display from Friday through Feb. 16 at Alperts Furniture Showplace, Route 6, Seekonk. The show is open during regular business hours.
The Rhode Island contest was judged by area professional artists, graphic designers and retired art educators. It was sponsored by The Providence Journal, in cooperation with the Rhode Island Art Education Association and Alperts.
