CRANSTON -- On paper, at least, the storm resembled previous nightmares. In fact, Emergency Management Agency officials said the storm had all the makings of the Dec. 13, 2007, debacle that left Providence schoolchildren stuck on buses until 11 p.m.

Central Fall teachers' vigil

CENTRAL FALLS -- School Supt. Frances Gallo plans to fire all the teachers in the city's only high school as part of a major overhaul ordered by the state education commissioner. "We need to be able to move this school," Gallo said Tuesday afternoon.

Vigil for Warwick fire victims

SMITHFIELD -- Even as investigators continued to probe the cause of the fire in Warwick that claimed the lives of four young people and an infant Saturday, more than 600 friends, family and former classmates gathered at St. Philip Church in Greenville Tuesday night to grieve, pray and listen to words hope.



In the first step in what promises to be a long and tortuous legal path, at least 18 former officers, directors and employees of the R.I. Resource Recovery Corporation have received letters seeking the recovery of $75 million that auditors say was lost as a result of "apparent misfeasance, malfeasance and nonfeasance."

PROVIDENCE -- A lack of affordable housing set up Rhode Island to be among the hardest hit by the nationwide foreclosure crisis, according to a report due out Wednesday from a coalition seeking to make more affordable housing available.
